Making a shoe string bow,

1. Cut a piece of cardboard about 2″ long and 2″ wide, if you want a bigger bow add to the length of the cardboard,

2. Cut notches in the cardboard for tying,

3. Drape a piece of ribbon over the notch

4. Wrap ribbon around the length of the cardboard OVER the draped piece of ribbon

5. Lift the draped ribbon OVER the wrapped ribbon, away from the cut edge and tie 2x

6. Slipp of the cardboard

adding a bow

7 Oct

Customer service is a wonderful thing, you get to speak to some great people at all hours (this one is for you  David), I always get all excited when a future groom gets all involved in the wedding planing and has a lot of questions about the creation and looks of wedding accessories, the question posed was: if there is a box already decorated with organza ribbon do I need to replace it with the personalized ribbon?,  what else can I do?., Well, yes you can start from scratch and take off the original ribbon and replace it with everything , or get similar and add, but also there is a cost factor, I suggested to just add a personalized satin bow to the existing organza ribbon.

I found little statue in a clear box, the box is 2.5″ x 2.5″ x 4.5″ tall, it is wrapped in organza ribbon with a small bow on top, I created a small satin bow with personalized ribbon, and I will add it on to the existing decoration. Use the thin satin strands and slip under the original bow, and with this you have 3 choices, tie it so the original bow is on the bottom and not showing, second is the original bow on top and third, undo the original bow and tie it on top of the personalized one, here are picture of what it would look like each way

Personally, I like the last one best, tying in the existing organza ribbon, on top of the satin personalized bow, it looks like it was meant to be.

Pew bow / large decorating bow

3 Jul
  1. I found a roll of 8 inch wide plastic ribbon, I decided that it would make a great decorating bow for indoor and outdoor use, this would be ideal for a pew bows, that can be moved to decorate an outside house, or wedding reception
  2. I chose a hot pink for picute purposes, it stands out a little more, this can be combined with 2 colors, if you want 2 colors, just alternate the folds
  3. Lay out a 15 inch layer on a flat surface and keep piling up the ribbon one layer on top of another, I used 10 folds or layers, that took 4.5 yards of ribbon
  4. Once all the layers are flat, cut a 1.5 yard piece of ribbon for the tail
  5. With the piece that was cut for the tail tie the layers in the middle, first lightly to make sure you are in the center, if the knot is not too tight you can slide the knot ether way to even it out, after you are satisfied the the tail is centered tighten and double knot.
  6. Once the knot is tied turn the bow over so the knot is in the back and start lifting and fluffing the layers. Lift the top layer loop and pull to the center, than the second loop, and the next ect.. insert your hand inside the loop to brinf the layers up, do this to each layer on both sides of the tail
  7. This is the finished bow, it measures 15 inches across, 8 inches wide and 9 inches deep, trim the bottom of the tails to make them even.
  8. You can find this plastic ribbon in various colors on ebay, under the store name Party Favors Plus

These instructions are to show how to make a bow for a personalized ribbon, the one pictured is a 7/8″ wide ribbon, it is 15 inches long including the printed area,

  1. cut ribbonhold the ribbon with the print upside down toward you,
  2. make a loopcriss cross the ribbon creating a loop,
  3. bring loop to criss crossbring the loop down behind the criss cross
  4. finished bowcrimp slightly with one hand and with a piece of narrow ribbon tie the loop and criss cross together at the gathering,
  5. pull gently on each loop to even out the loops and tug gently on the ends to straighten , now you can tie this ribbon to your favor, for 3/8′ ribbon you will need 13″ total ribbon and for 1.5″ ribbon you will need 20″ ribbon, keep in mind that the longer the print the longer the ribbon has to be.
